TESSERACT SCHOOL HOSTS “SELECTIVE COLLEGES ADMISSIONS PANEL,” AND IS SELECTED AS THE LOCATION FOR MASSACHUSETTS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (MIT) ADMISSIONS EVENT
Phoenix, AZ—September 8, 2009— The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is
participating in two admissions events this month at Tesseract School, a non-profit, independent
private school for students in preschool through high school.
On Monday, September 21 at 7:00 p.m., MIT will be one of several colleges joining Tesseract’s
“Selective Colleges Admissions Panel” at its middle and high school campus. Panelists
representing MIT, Harvard University, Princeton University, Dartmouth College and the
University of Pennsylvania will participate in the panel discussion, moderated by Dr. Chris
LaBonte, Tesseract School’s director of middle and high school. Open to all Valley families,
the panel discussion is targeted at underclassmen (freshmen and sophomores) who are looking
to apply to highly selective colleges and universities. Panelists will discuss what the institutions
they represent look for in their applicants and how prospective applicants can become strong
candidates by maximizing their high school years.
“The panel discussion on Monday night is a fantastic opportunity for students and parents to
hear what representatives from MIT and other top universities and colleges have to share about
their admissions processes,” said Nigel Taplin, Tesseract’s head of school.
In addition to Monday night’s admissions panel, MIT has invited several Phoenix-area high
schools to schedule meetings for their students with MIT representatives for its Phoenix-area
“Central Meeting.” This event is designed to present an accurate picture of what MIT is like
today, and to give a primer on its admissions process to prospective applicants and their
parents. These pre-scheduled meetings will be held on Sunday, September 20.
“We are very pleased to be hosting an admissions event for this prestigious institution for the
second year in a row,” noted Taplin.
Both events will be held at Tesseract School’s new middle and high school campus, located at
3939 East Shea Boulevard, Phoenix, Arizona.
