TESSERACT SCHOOL ANNOUNCES SPRING PRODUCTION OF “SEUSSICAL, THE MUSICAL.”

PARADISE VALLEY, ARIZONA –May 28, 2009–Tesseract School, a non-profit, independent private school— preschool through ninth grade, with its inaugural tenth-grade class scheduled for fall 2009— announced that tonight is opening night for its middle school spring musical, “Seussical, The Musical.”

Tesseract’s annual middle school spring musical is an event the entire Tesseract community looks forward to—so much in fact, the performances consistently sell out. That is why this year’s performances were moved from the school’s stage to Scottsdale’s Stagebrush Theatre. “We are all excited to be performing this year’s musical at Stagebrush,” said Terri Scullin, Tesseract School music and drama educator. “Not only will more families and friends be able to come and enjoy the musical, but it is a wonderful experience for all the students involved in this production to be able to experience performing in a professional venue.” This year’s performance brings to life many of Dr. Seuss’ most famous stories and characters including, "The Cat in the Hat," Horton the elephant and Gertrude McFuzz.

Tesseract’s middle and high school offers a variety of performing arts options that the students can take advantage of including band, music classes, drama, chorus, rock band and musical theater. Through the drama and theater classes students learn pantomime, improvisation, character development and how to deliver monologues, as well as scene study and backstage elements of the theater.

In the spring semester, middle school students are given the opportunity to register for the Musical Theater elective. In this class students build upon the skills and knowledge they gained in drama or chorus as they prepare to participate in a large-scale musical theater production at the end of the school year. The students go through a weeklong audition process where they act, sing and dance for staff and members of the local theater community.

All proceeds from Tesseract’s performances of “Seussical, The Musical” will go to Tesseract’s performing arts fund. The shows run May 28 at 6:30 p.m., May 29 at 2:00 p.m. and May 30 at 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Scottsdale’s Stagebrush Theatre. For more information call 480.991.1770.
