High School

Tesseract’s high school has been designed to give students the skills and knowledge needed for success in college and beyond. Our innovative, student-centered curriculum emphasizes authentic learning, cross-curricular connections and international exposure. We combine these elements with outstanding educators, a low student-to-teacher ratio and a well-rounded, college-preparatory curriculum that includes Advanced Placement (AP) courses, foreign languages, visual and performing arts, physical education, class trips and projects, service learning, college counseling and student advising.

In high school, each year brings its own unique focus. For freshman, the foundations of civilization are explored in class, and with hands-on experiences at museums, ancient ruins and historic landmarks throughout the Mediterranean. Sophomore year, math and science are brought to life, with real-world applications during the sophomore class trip to universities and research labs in California. For juniors, foreign language and cultures are in the forefront, and are studied locally, as well as abroad on class trips to South America and China.  During the senior year, the focus is on internal development and independent exploration, with opportunities for studying specific areas of interest through the week-long interim and three-week off-campus senior project.

As important as our students’ intellectual growth is their personal growth. Serving as the framework for our academic and social curriculum, The Habits of Mind— communicating with clarity and precision, intellectual curiosity and openness and persistence—and The Habits of Heart— making thoughtful decisions, listening and cooperating with others, contributing to the common good—serve as the framework for our academic and social curriculum, establishing lifelong habits and a high school community where students feel safe, understood, engaged and empowered.

In preparation for college, our high school graduation requirements provide each student with an education that combines the breadth, depth and flexibility required by higher-learning institutions. Through close mentoring and our comprehensive college-counseling program, upperclassmen are prepared for a smooth transition from high school to the colleges and universities of their choice.
