Grade 12

Senior year at Tesseract, students have the opportunity to put their social and academic preparation into practice as they finalize their academic profiles and prepare for their admittance into college. Tesseract seniors have a broad range of elective choices which allows them to pursue their individual academic interests. In addition to a rich selection of humanities-based courses, seniors are given the opportunity to continue their scientific, linguistic and artistic pursuits.

All seniors continue to study mathematics taking either pre-calculus, calculus and/or business math. Seniors also have the opportunity to take additional classes off campus at local colleges.

All seniors are required to take Senior Seminar which focuses on the existential crisis. Reading works such as "The Stranger" and "Metamorphosis," seniors grapple with the important questions relating to existence and our role in society. Given their own metamorphosis into college students, these topics are particularly compelling.

Seniors meet regularly with their counselors who assist them with completing the necessary steps for college admissions including requesting letters of recommendation, re-taking the SAT I, SAT II and ACT, if needed, and submitting all applications. While finalizing their college selections, Tesseract seniors have the opportunity to expand their high school academic choices through Advanced Placement (AP) courses, classes at local colleges and business internships.

Throughout their time at Tesseract, a focus on independence and responsibility travels with students at age-appropriate levels. For students’ final year with Tesseract, this culminates in the senior project in which students will work with their advisors to design and execute a three-week off-site internship project that complements their personal and academic journeys. Upon returning from this project, seniors will present their real-world learning experiences to the community as part of the graduation criteria. Foreign language, the arts, athletics, service learning, advisory, and trips and projects—with technology integrated throughout— further enrich students’ senior-year experience.
