Grade 11
Tesseract’s junior-year curriculum introduces students to college-level work. Students take History of the Americas, which analyzes the different recourses and historical paths of the countries in North, Central and South America though the use of primary source documents. Literature of the America’s is designed to complement this course as it introduces students to classic American novels.
These courses are tightly connected to the junior Spanish language courses which study Spanish literature as well as refine speaking skills. There is a special emphasis on both Spanish and Mandarin during the junior year as students prepare for their second language trips to Peru and China.
Most juniors take physics, although some students choose to take Modern Topics in Science so they can focus more deeply on specific science topics. Students continue along the math curriculum taking Algebra II/Trigonometry or Pre-Calculus.
Many students continue to pursue their education in the fine arts—music, drama and visual art—although some students choose to "double up" in one of the academic areas by taking senior level classes.
Throughout high school, technology is integrated to support each subject’s curriculum. The arts, athletics, service learning, advisory, and trips and projects further enrich students’ junior-year experience.
During junior year, a special emphasis is placed on college decisions. Tesseract’s college counselor meets on a regular basis with each student to help him or her choose Advanced Placement (AP) classes, prepare for and take the PSAT, register for the SAT I and SAT II, plan college visits and prepare for applications and interviews. Students also attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) college fair and discuss college goals, including majors.
