Grade 11

Tesseract’s high school curriculum has been designed to give students the skills and knowledge needed for success in college and beyond in an innovative setting that emphasizes authentic learning, cross-curricular connections and global connections. Our college preparatory curriculum and student-centered approach capitalize on the innate strengths of students, capturing their interest and stimulating a lifelong love of learning.

Tesseract’s junior-year curriculum* emphasizes a greater elective choice by separating the humanities curriculum into history, literature and composition strands. By selecting electives in these areas students are given the opportunity to focus on specific academic disciplines as they continue their progress along the mathematics and science sequence.

The 11th-grade also places a special emphasis on foreign language, giving students one extra hour per week in this area in preparation for the language-focused junior trip to China, for students studying Mandarin, and South America, for students studying Spanish.

Throughout high school, technology is integrated to support each subject’s curriculum. The arts, athletics, service learning, advisory, and trips and projects further enrich students’ junior-year experience.

During junior year, a special emphasis is placed on college decisions. Tesseract’s college counselor meets on a regular basis with each student to help him or her choose Advanced Placement (AP) classes, prepare for and take the PSAT, register for the SAT I and SAT II, plan college visits and prepare for applications and interviews. Students also attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) college fair and discuss college goals, including majors.

*Tesseract School’s first junior class will start fall 2010.
