College Counseling

At Tesseract School, our comprehensive college-counseling program is designed to assist upperclassmen and their families in researching and selecting the most appropriate colleges and universities.

Beginning in ninth grade, students meet with our college counselor to discuss the college application process, including competitive grade point averages (GPA), course profiles and selection criteria for different colleges and universities. Ninth-graders also start the creation of portfolios and resumes that will represent their academic progress throughout high school.

In 10th grade, students meet with our college counselor and plan for ACT and PSAT testing. Once the PSAT has been taken, students meet with their counselor to review results and plan any necessary test preparation for the junior-level PSAT. Students also continue to develop their portfolios and resumes that will represent their academic progress throughout high school.

During students’ junior year, a special emphasis is placed on college decisions. Tesseract’s college counselor meets on a regular basis with each student to help him or her choose Advanced Placement (AP) classes, prepare for and take the PSAT, register for the SAT I and SAT II, plan college visits and prepare for applications and interviews. Students also attend the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) college fair and discuss college goals, including majors.

Senior year, students meet regularly with their counselors who assist them with completing the necessary steps for college admissions including requesting letters of recommendation, re-taking the SAT I, SAT II and ACT, if needed, and submitting all applications. While finalizing their college selections, Tesseract seniors have the opportunity to expand their high school academic choices through Advanced Placement (AP) courses, classes at local colleges and business internships.
