Global Education
At Tesseract, we prepare students to thrive in a competitive, global environment. Our integrated, thematic curriculum and hands-on learning experiences, including international class trips, expose students to diverse cultures, foreign language, the global economy, communication technology, and social and environmental responsibility issues. Students graduate from Tesseract with a broad understanding of the world as a large, interconnected community.
We incorporate these cross-curricular concepts with authentic learning opportunities in all subject areas. Through experiential learning via virtual environments, community-service projects, group projects, field trips and class trips, concepts are reinforced and absorbed by students as they connect their learning and individual interests to the world around them. Our eighth-grade class trip to the rainforests of Costa Rica is an example, where students are provided the opportunity to experience a different culture first-hand, utilize their foreign language skills, and learn and apply knowledge about ecology, economy and service-learning--all within a real-world setting.
After returning, students expand upon what they have learned and experienced though the curriculum in a number of ways. With the onset of the Digital Revolution, where technology is removing previous barriers, not only are students able to further research and monitor the issues and events they learned about on their trips and in class, but also how to harness technology to keep in contact with the people they met through applications like Skype, collaborate on projects using Google Apps and share these valuable experiences through personal blogs. Seamlessly integrating these technologies into class studies is integral, and provides an engaging environment that demonstrates how our world is changing and the greater interdependency between nations, cultures and individuals. Students learn how actions in one part of the world affect others and how by recognizing the power of this balance and working collaboratively with others can impart change.
Acknowledging the dynamism and complexity of the 21st century, we are very aware of the importance of balancing the emphasis on traditional skills and global awareness with the need to teach creativity and innovation within interactive and collaborative settings. Through our innovative curriculum, students at Tesseract learn to be critical and creative thinkers who are open to new thoughts and ideas, and able to work independently as well as collaboratively, skills necessary for success in college and life in a global economy.
