The Arts
At Tesseract School, our visual and performing arts programs follow our philosophy of educating the whole child by providing our students with a variety of ways to exercise their creativity and express themselves.
Visual Arts
Visual arts classes encourage exploration, discovery and self-expression in a discipline-based approach. Class content is closely related to core-curriculum topics and themes, and is often taught in conjunction with core classes; learning is cumulative, with each skill level building on the one prior. Students explore the visual arts through art history, discussion, observation and writing, as well as through the production of artwork. Visual acuity is a major focus of the program and students often engage in visual observation exercises and applications. Each student is recognized as an artist and is encouraged to develop and grow at his or her own rate of development.
Performing Arts
In Tesseract’s lower school, music classes are taught using the Orff-Schulwerk approach, which encourages creativity and active participation while helping students gain musical knowledge and skills. Students are exposed to the elements of music, rhythm, melody, harmony, form and timbre through several different musical experiences including, speaking, singing, movement, playing instruments and listening as they prepare for several different concerts throughout the year.
