TESSERACT SCHOOL SOPHOMORE ON WINNING TEAM
AT CAA BASKETBALL BOYS ALL-STAR SHOWCASE

PHOENIX, ARIZONA—March 14, 2011—Hunter P. a sophomore at Tesseract School and a co-captain of the boys varsity basketball team represented Tesseract in the 2010-2011 2A Charter Athletic Association High School Boys All-Star Showcase. Hunter played on the Central Division team that defeated the West team in the semifinals and the South team in the finals for the championships.

“It was very exciting to be Central Division champs,” said Hunter. “This season was a lot of fun, mainly because of how much we improved over last year. I'm very excited for next season as it looks like we will have junior varsity and varsity teams.”

Hunter participated in CAA basketball throughout the 2010-2011 season and was selected by the team’s head coach, Toby Carlson, to play in the All-Star Tournament. Being the only sophomore on a team comprised mostly of seniors from other area high schools would be daunting for most, but Hunter stepped up to the challenge throughout the tournament.

“Hunter is a team leader on the court during games and in practice,” said Carlson. “He is a vocal leader who prides himself on working hard and leading by example.”

Tesseract opened its middle and high school campus in September 2008 with its inaugural freshman class. Physical fitness and athletics, including competitive sports, have always been part of Tesseract’s innovative, student-centered curriculum as part of its “whole student” educational approach. With the addition of a high school, and Tesseract’s new 10,000 square-foot sports pavilion, the athletic program was able to expand to include varsity sports and join the CAA with the start of the 2008-2009 school year. As the high school is still growing, Tesseract continues to add more sports.

“The future of Tesseract’s athletics program is bright,” noted Kelley McKee, Tesseract’s director of athletics. “Our student-athletes have been participating in volleyball, basketball and baseball, and this year, with the addition of our first junior class, we were able to add Ultimate Frisbee, chess and co-ed soccer. Moving forward we are looking at also adding boys soccer and girls softball.”
