TESSERACT SCHOOL AND AMENZONE TEACH STUDENTS
TO LEAD HEALTHY LIFESTYLES

PARADISE VALLEY, ARIZONA—November 12, 2010—Don’t be surprised if the next time you walk into Tesseract School you see students jumping in and out of tractor tires. It’s all part of Tesseract’s physical education program and special guest, Amen Iseghohi’s, physical fitness program.

Iseghohi, physical fitness guru and founder of Amenzone, visited Tesseract’s lower school campus earlier this year and will return November 15. While at Tesseract, Iseghohi will continue discussions with students about health, nutrition and fitness as well as lead physical education sessions that involve using tires as a means to have fun and stay fit.

“My passion for physical fitness started when I was a child, when my sister and I were pushed to be physically active by my grandmother. We didn’t have gyms or fitness equipment to work with, so we improvised and used old tires,” Iseghohi said. “My grandmother’s insistence that we be physically fit was a gift; I want to share that gift and motivate children to understand and enjoy physical fitness.”

Understanding the importance and lifelong benefits of leading a healthy, active lifestyle, physical fitness is a key component of Tesseract’s curriculum. Tying in with the school’s “whole child” approach, where every child is healthy, safe, engaged, supported and challenged, the school’s physical education department facilitates a sequential, instructional program in which students develop physically active lifestyles that promote lifelong fitness, good health and the love of athletics. In Tesseract’s lower school, the SPARK Physical Education and Wellness program is utilized. SPARK was designed to be more inclusive, active and fun than traditional physical education classes and to include only activities that can be realistically implemented in a variety of school settings, including those that have limited space, equipment and supplies.

Like SPARK, Iseghohi’s classes do not require a tremendous amount of equipment or large spaces. Both programs tie in with Tesseract’s approach and core values by promoting the importance of developing a healthy lifestyle for children in an environment that encourages social and personal skill development.

“When your body is moving and your heart rate’s up, your mind is energized and engaged,” said Iseghohi. “People feel better, both mentally and physically, and when people feel better, they can do better.”

About Amen Iseghohi and Amenzone:
Raised in Belgium, London and West Africa, Amen Iseghohi is a former professional rugby player and the founder of Amenzone Primal Fitness Training located in Scottsdale, Arizona. The focus of Iseghohi’s studio is a return to basics, based on a personal adventure he experienced as a boy living with his grandmother in Benin, a small city in West Africa. Concerned about the impact of a lack of exercise on children in America today, Iseghohi’s hope is to start a program in many of the school systems to combat childhood obesity. He is currently working with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Scottsdale, and Amenzone has partnered with students at Arizona State University to become Primal Ambassadors to the schools who employ his program of fitness, nutrition and self-confidence as a way of life.
