TESSERACT ANNOUNCES NEW DIRECTOR
OF MIDDLE SCHOOL

PHOENIX, ARIZONA—November 11, 2009—With the increase in its enrollment and the new high school, Tesseract School is adding a new director of middle school to its leadership team. The school announced today that Erika Goethe will serve in this new position.

“Erika is greatly admired by our students, parents and her colleagues for her ability to engage and inspire her students and for her deep understanding of middle school education,” said Nigel Taplin, Tesseract’s head of school. “We are all very excited to welcome her in her new role as director of middle school.”

A middle school educator for more than 16 years, Goethe has taught at Tesseract School for the past eight years, leading sustainability, professional development and student assessment committees, student and educator retreats, interstate class trips and Tesseract’s Breaking New Ground capital campaign educator drive. Goethe has also been serving as Tesseract’s middle school coordinator since September 2008.

“I am thrilled to be moving into this new role,” said Goethe. “Tesseract is an amazing school to be a part of—the innovative curriculum and student-centered approach here really allow educators to connect with the students on multiple levels, which is integral to the learning process.”

Tesseract opened its second campus to house its middle school and the new high school with its inaugural freshman class in September 2008.  Goethe will officially assume her new position with the start of the 2010/2011 school year; at this time Chris LaBonte, Ph.D., Tesseract’s director of middle and high school will move into the position of director of high school.

“I am really looking forward to Erika’s leadership of the middle school,” said LaBonte. “She has been invaluable in her role as an educator, and as our middle school coordinator since the opening of our new campus. She truly understands middle school students—she knows what makes them tick and is able to bring the best out of them.”

Goethe graduated from Arizona State University, earned her master’s degree from Grand Canyon University and holds an Arizona State Teaching Certificate.
