The goal of the Tesseract Library is to encourage Tesseract students to internalize a love of books, establish lifelong reading habits and to develop the skills necessary to access and use information effectively and efficiently.
Preschool students love to visit the library each week for story sharing, finger-plays, songs, and book browsing. What a perfect time to introduce the library as a great place to be and a source of enjoyment.
Kindergarten through fifth-grade students attend library class one time each week, concentrating on the development of grade-appropriate skills necessary for library usage, and the sharing and appreciation of some forms of literature. It’s been fun to celebrate the birthday of an author each month! We learn about his/her life before sharing some of the creative works.
We enjoy taking the time during the school year to celebrate and participate in: Arizona Young Reader Award, Children’s Book Week, Border’s Book Day and National Library Week. The students have embraced becoming acquainted with award winning books, both Newbery and Caldecott.
Tesseract students in grades six through eight, though not scheduled for classes, are welcome to visit the library as needed or directed by an educator. All students, K-8, are encouraged to check out books for leisure reading during their class visit or by using a “pass” from the teacher.
We use the Follett Library Software, offering online catalog access from all school computers via OPAC. Subscription databases are being offered to provide accessible, accurate and authentic reference and research information.
Since the “rebirth” of the library in 2004/2005, huge strides have been made to inventory the collection, add research tools and serve as support to the teaching staff as they search for curriculum-related resource materials.
The Tesseract Parents Association Library Committee is very active in supporting the Library with fundraising activities and with volunteers. Through their efforts, the library has grown, and Tesseract students benefit from reading the many wonderful books available to them.
