Athletics

Physical education is the portion of the students’ overall education that is accomplished through movement. Our physical education classes help students have fun while refining their motor skills and reinforcing team work, cooperation, rules and knowledge of team sports, and individual skills.

Students participate in the Presidential Fitness Test at the start and end of each year to gage their increased physical fitness. Tesseract School develops each student in four major and unique areas of growth:

  1. The development and maintenance of a personalized level of physical fitness.
  2. The development and enhancement of movement competency.
  3. An understanding of movement and movement principles.
  4. An understanding and passion for sports, sportsmanship, competition and teamwork.

The physical education program is divided into three levels:

  • Grade K-1
Most of these activities are individual in nature and center on movement and movement principles. At this level, the students develop body identification and body management skill, as they begin to develop greater gross motor skills.
  • Grades 2-3
Initial instruction in basic sport skills begins at this level and a number of lead-up activities are used. This helps students to use newly learned skills in a small group setting, as they continue to develop their motor skills.
  • Grades 4-8
At this level increased emphasis is placed on physical fitness and developmental activities. The central focus at this level is team sports and improving sport skills while enjoying competition through participation.
  • Grade 9

As freshman, our students will be required to take physical education classes for their first year of upper school. These classes will be geared towards continued physical development, strength training and cardio-vascular exercise. Athletic units will focus on the sports that we will be offering competitively after school.

AthleticsThe Tesseract Athletic Department is deeply committed to providing as many students as possible the opportunity to play competitive sports. The Mountain Valley Athletic League allows us to compete against the other top private schools in the valley. Both 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th grade teams will proudly represent our school. The girls compete in volleyball, soccer, softball, and basketball; the boys compete in flag football, basketball, soccer, and baseball. Experienced and professional coaches will be hired to provide the best and most productive atmosphere for our student athletes. Being a part of a team is a responsibility for both the students and their families. We will focus on self-discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and effort to create strong, competitive teams.

All athletes receive playing time in each game. The amount will be at the discretion of the coach. All athletes must be in good academic and behavioral standing with the school to remain on the team. The athletic director, coaches, athletes, and parents will work in unison to provide the best athletic program possible.
