The showcase is the culmination of the nine-week native and exotic reptiles unit that the fourth-graders study at school with the (PHS). The program teaches students to understand, respect and conserve reptiles native to Arizona, and as summer approaches, it also helps instill critical safety tactics to prepare students for how to respond if they encounter snakes. Each student selects a reptile to study, and on the PHS’s ninth visit, the fourth-graders invite the entire school into the Kathleen Ferris Auditorium (KFA), where each student presents the research and answers other student’s questions about his or her specific reptile, with that reptile present in the KFA.
