ONE OF AMERICA’S PREMIER STORYTELLERS VISITS
TESSERACT SCHOOL
PARADISE VALLEY, AZ – March 10, 2006 – Famed storyteller and
author Joe Hayes visited the children at Tesseract School,
entertaining them with a day full of delightful Southwestern tales.
The Tesseract Parents Association (TPA), Spanish teacher Maestra
Jessie and the Cultural Enrichment Committee arranged for the wonderful
visit. Weaving his tales in Spanish and
English, Hayes captured the students’ and teachers’ attention with his animated
story telling abilities, bringing tales told from long ago to life. The children especially enjoyed when Mr.
Hayes spoke in Spanish, which the students are taught at Tesseract beginning at
age 3.
Joe Hayes is a renowned storyteller of tales from the
Hispanic, Native American and Anglo cultures. For thirteen years, he has been
the resident storyteller at the Wheelwright
Museum of the American Indian in Santa Fe. Hayes has published
20 books, seven written in both Spanish and English. His book “The Day It Snowed Tortillas” was
nominated for the Arizona Young Readers' Award.
